Tokyo Station is where many trips in Japan begin and end. The Narita Express to the airport and the Tokaido Shinkansen to Kyoto and Osaka both leave from here, and Ginza is only one stop away on the Tokyo Metro Marunouchi Line.

That makes a hotel near Tokyo Station a practical base, especially for the first and last nights of a trip. But the station is huge, and “near Tokyo Station” can mean very different walks depending on which side you are on.

Here are six hotels around the station, with the walking times each hotel (or an official tourism site) gives, and a quick guide to the two sides of the station.

Quick answer: hotels near Tokyo Station

Hotel Side Access (as officially stated)
The Tokyo Station Hotel Marunouchi Inside the station building; directly connected (Marunouchi South Exit)
Shangri-La Tokyo Marunouchi About 1 minute from Tokyo Station
Marunouchi Hotel Marunouchi About 1 min from the JR Marunouchi North Exit; connected by underground passage
Hotel Metropolitan Tokyo Marunouchi Nihonbashi / Yaesu North 1 min from the Shinkansen Nihonbashi Exit; 2 min from the Yaesu North Exit
Hotel Ryumeikan Tokyo Yaesu 3 min from the Yaesu North Exit
Daiwa Roynet Hotel TOKYO-KYOBASHI PREMIER Yaesu (Kyobashi) 7 min from the Yaesu South Exit

Walking times are the official figures from the hotels or official tourism sites. They are a guide, not a promise — Tokyo Station is busy, and suitcases slow everyone down.

First, know the two sides: Marunouchi and Yaesu

According to GO TOKYO, the official Tokyo travel site, the Marunouchi side is on the west of the station, a short walk from the Imperial Palace. The Tokyo Station Hotel and the Marunouchi exits are on this side.

The Yaesu side is on the east, a few minutes’ walk from the shopping districts of Ginza and Nihonbashi. GO TOKYO also notes that airport buses and long-distance highway buses leave from the Yaesu side.

Choose your side before you choose your hotel. Tokyo Station is large, so a hotel close to the exit you will actually use saves time on arrival day.

The hotels, one by one

The Tokyo Station Hotel — inside the station building

This hotel is inside the Tokyo Station building itself, at 1-9-1 Marunouchi, with 150 guest rooms and suites. GO TOKYO lists it as directly connected to the station at the Marunouchi South Exit.

The hotel also offers to meet guests arriving by Shinkansen or Narita Express on the platform and guide them to the hotel (free, by advance reservation). If you want to stay in the station rather than near it, this is the one.

Shangri-La Tokyo — about 1 minute from the station

In the Marunouchi Trust Tower Main at 1-8-3 Marunouchi, the hotel describes itself as about a 1-minute walk from Tokyo Station, with 200 rooms. It also offers a meet-and-greet service on the Tokyo Station platform. A good choice for a special first or last night in Japan.

Marunouchi Hotel — about 1 minute from the Marunouchi North Exit

At 1-6-3 Marunouchi, with 201 rooms. The hotel gives the JR Marunouchi North Exit as about a 1-minute walk and the Tokyo Metro Marunouchi Line north gate as about 2 minutes, both connected by underground passage. Being able to stay underground is a real advantage on rainy days or with heavy bags.

Hotel Metropolitan Tokyo Marunouchi — next to the Nihonbashi Exit

Despite the “Marunouchi” in its name, this hotel at 1-7-12 Marunouchi sits by the Nihonbashi and Yaesu North exits on the east side of the station. According to Chiyoda City’s official tourism site, it is about 1 minute from the Shinkansen Nihonbashi Exit and 2 minutes from the Yaesu North Exit — very handy if you are catching an early Shinkansen.

Hotel Ryumeikan Tokyo — 3 minutes from the Yaesu North Exit

At 1-3-22 Yaesu, the hotel gives the JR Tokyo Station Yaesu North Exit as a 3-minute walk. It is a good option on the Yaesu side, which is the side to pick if you plan to walk to Nihonbashi or take an airport bus.

Daiwa Roynet Hotel TOKYO-KYOBASHI PREMIER — 7 minutes from the Yaesu South Exit

Tokyo Station or Ginza?

The two are close. On the Tokyo Metro Marunouchi Line, Tokyo Station (M17) is the next stop from Ginza (M16).

  • Stay near Tokyo Station if your trip starts or ends with the Narita Express or the Shinkansen, or if you are taking an early train to Kyoto, Osaka or Mt. Fuji.
  • Stay in Ginza if you want shopping, restaurants and evening walks right outside your door. See my guides to hotels near Ginza Station and where to stay in Ginza.

One option is to spend most nights in Ginza and the last night near Tokyo Station before an early train or flight. If neither area feels right, my guide to where to stay in Tokyo compares every major area, including prices.

Tips for choosing

  1. Match the side to your train or bus. Airport buses and highway buses use the Yaesu side, according to GO TOKYO. Check which exit your hotel gives before you arrive.
  2. Use the underground passages. Some hotels, such as the Marunouchi Hotel, are connected to the station underground. With large suitcases, ask the hotel which route has lifts.
  3. Book the Shinkansen early. If you are staying here for an early train, see my guide to buying Shinkansen tickets in Tokyo.

For airport routes, see my guide to getting from Narita and Haneda to central Tokyo. And to stay online from the moment you land, my comparison of eSIMs for Japan covers the options.

Summary

  • Inside or next to the station (Marunouchi side): The Tokyo Station Hotel, Shangri-La Tokyo (about 1 min), Marunouchi Hotel (about 1 min from the Marunouchi North Exit).
  • East side (Nihonbashi / Yaesu): Hotel Metropolitan Tokyo Marunouchi (1 min from the Shinkansen Nihonbashi Exit), Hotel Ryumeikan Tokyo (3 min from the Yaesu North Exit), Daiwa Roynet Hotel TOKYO-KYOBASHI PREMIER (7 min from the Yaesu South Exit).
  • Pick the side first — Marunouchi for the Imperial Palace area, Yaesu for Ginza, Nihonbashi and airport buses.

Walking times and exits are the figures given by each hotel or by official tourism sites, as of 15 October 2026. Hotels sometimes update their access information, so confirm on the hotel’s site before you travel.
