“Near Ginza Station” can mean very different things on a booking site. Some hotels with Ginza in their name are closer to Shimbashi or Higashi-ginza, and with a suitcase, an extra ten minutes of walking matters.

I run two businesses in Ginza. In this guide I list hotels that are a short walk from Ginza Station, using the walking time and exit each hotel gives on its own website, so you can check the route before you book.

If you are still choosing a budget or style of hotel, start with my guide to where to stay in Ginza by budget. This page is only about one thing: how close you are to the station.

Quick answer: the closest hotels to Ginza Station

Hotel Walk from Ginza Station (as stated by the hotel) Other nearby stations
MUJI HOTEL GINZA About 2 min from Exit C8 JR Yurakucho (Central Exit) about 3 min; Ginza-itchome (Exit 5) about 2 min
Hotel Gracery Ginza 3 min (Ginza Line) JR Shimbashi 8 min
Hyatt Centric Ginza Tokyo 3 min from Exit B5 —
The Peninsula Tokyo About 3 min from Exit C4 Directly connected to Hibiya Station (Exits A6/A7); JR Yurakucho about 2 min
Hotel Monterey Ginza About 4 min from Exit A13 Ginza-itchome (Exit 10) about 1 min

Walking times are the hotels’ own figures. They are a guide, not a promise — crowds and luggage slow everyone down.

First, know the station: Ginza Station has many exits

Ginza Station is served by three Tokyo Metro lines: the Ginza Line, the Marunouchi Line and the Hibiya Line. Each exit has its own number, such as C8 or A13.

This is why the exit number matters more than the station name. Two hotels that are both “3 minutes from Ginza Station” can be on opposite sides of the district if they use different exits. When a hotel tells you its exit, follow the signs for that exit number while you are still underground, and you will come up much closer to the door.

Ginza is also surrounded by other stations within walking distance — Ginza-itchome, Higashi-ginza, Hibiya, Yurakucho and Shimbashi. According to GO TOKYO, the official Tokyo travel site, the Ginza area is about a 5-minute walk from JR Yurakucho Station. If you are arriving on a JR line, a hotel near Yurakucho can be just as convenient.

The hotels, one by one

MUJI HOTEL GINZA — about 2 minutes from Exit C8

The hotel from the Japanese brand MUJI is on the 6th floor at Ginza 3-3-5, with 79 rooms finished in wood, stone and earth tones. According to the hotel, it is about 2 minutes from Exit C8 of Ginza Station, about 3 minutes from the Central Exit of JR Yurakucho Station, and about 2 minutes from Exit 5 of Ginza-itchome Station. Three stations within a few minutes makes it one of the easiest bases in the district.

Hotel Gracery Ginza — 3 minutes on the Ginza Line

A 270-room hotel at Ginza 7-chome, on the Shimbashi side of the district. The hotel lists Ginza Station (Ginza Line) as a 3-minute walk and JR Shimbashi Station as 8 minutes. A breakfast buffet is available. It is a good pick if you want to be near both Ginza’s shops and the Shimbashi end, where the JR lines run.

Hyatt Centric Ginza Tokyo — 3 minutes from Exit B5

At Ginza 6-chome (Ginza 6-6-7), the hotel gives Exit B5 of Ginza Station as a 3-minute walk.

The Peninsula Tokyo — about 3 minutes from Exit C4

The Peninsula is directly connected to Hibiya Station (Exits A6/A7), so it is really a Hibiya hotel rather than one at Ginza’s main crossing. Even so, the hotel gives Exit C4 of Ginza Station as about 3 minutes, and JR Yurakucho as about 2 minutes. If you want three stations within a few minutes, it is a strong choice.

Hotel Monterey Ginza — about 4 minutes from Exit A13

At Ginza 2-chome (Ginza 2-10-2). The hotel gives Exit A13 of Ginza Station as about 4 minutes, but its closest station is Ginza-itchome, about 1 minute from Exit 10. The main avenue and the Kabukiza Theatre are both within walking distance.

A “Ginza” hotel that is closer to Shimbashi

Mitsui Garden Hotel Ginza Premier is one of the hotels I recommend in my Ginza hotel guide. But be aware of where it is: the hotel gives Exit A3 of Ginza Station as a 10-minute walk. Its closer stations are Shimbashi (Exit 1, 4 minutes), JR Shimbashi (Ginza Exit, 5 minutes) and Higashi-ginza (Exit A1, 5 minutes).

That is a handy location if you are catching JR trains at Shimbashi — just do not book it expecting to be at Ginza’s main crossing.

How to check “near the station” before you book

  1. Look for the exit number on the hotel’s own access page. Booking sites often show the distance to the nearest station, which may not be Ginza.
  2. Check which line you will use most. Ginza Station has three Tokyo Metro lines, while Yurakucho and Shimbashi also have JR lines. Pick the hotel by the line you need for the airport or the Shinkansen.
  3. Think about your luggage. A short walk on a map can include stairs inside the station. If you have large suitcases, a hotel close to an exit with a lift will make arrival day much easier. Ask the hotel which exit has one.

For airport routes into Ginza, see my guide to getting from Narita and Haneda to central Tokyo. If you are not set on Ginza, my comparison of Ginza, Shinjuku and Shibuya will help you decide. If your trip starts or ends with the Shinkansen or the Narita Express, a hotel at Tokyo Station — one stop from Ginza on the Marunouchi Line — is another option: see my guide to where to stay near Tokyo Station.
